Fashion and urban life certainly go hand-in-hand. In a new photo book from German fashion house Jil Sander, the inspiration and aesthetic of the brand’s Summer 2022 collection boast its place in the city. Offering context and insight into the vision of creative directors Luke and Lucy Meier, photos by frequent collaborator Chris Rhodes create an atmosphere of interconnection and immediacy in the photo book Paris.
To create the book, Chris roamed Paris seeking coincidences and chance encounters to capture alongside garments from the collection. The photos—mostly abstract close-ups of garments, body parts, and urban details—are unstaged, captured instinctively to encapsulate the moment and its mood. Paris becomes any city, a backdrop for urbanity in all its forms, collectivity, and freedom.
“The most satisfying aspect of these projects is working closely with the authors and our team,” say Lucie and Luke. “Finding new dimensions in what we do. It is important to see the things you do in the world. And we are extremely happy for the affinity that bonds Chris and us together, and the way he expands the borders of our vision.”
A continuation of Jil Sander’s collaborations with artists and photographers, Paris is available in stores and online for $170.
