The southern tip of the Baja Peninsula juts into the Pacific Ocean with the kind of dramatic coastline that makes you forget to check your phone. The location is far enough from downtown Cabo San Lucas to feel removed from the world, a scenic unwinding that signals you’re leaving normal life behind.

Here sits Nobu Residences Los Cabos, where 60 exclusive residences occupy grounds within the Nobu Hotel Los Cabos. “As you get older, you don’t have many opportunities or time to be with friends and family in one space,” says Laura Howe, Sixtysix’s associate publisher, who hosted a group at Nobu for four nights. The property offers a space to actually connect with the people you don’t see nearly often enough.

Spaciousness and an atmosphere of calm define nearly every aspect of the design. The property’s three-bedroom residence was massive with a sprawling living area, multiple bathrooms, and a full kitchen that became the heart of late-night gatherings. Outside a pool and cabana created guest’s own secluded paradise within the larger property. “It was large enough and thoughtfully designed,” she says. “Everyone had their own privacy, but the space also allowed for celebration. It definitely felt more like a living environment versus a hotel.”

The interiors, designed by Studio PCH, blend Japanese minimalism with the raw beauty of local Mexican materials. Led by French architect Séverine Tatangelo, the California-based boutique firm specializes in designing social spaces with a focus on high-end hospitality and residential projects. At Nobu Los Cabos, Cabo stone, granite, and limestone work together in simple lines and light tones, creating spaces that are both sophisticated and comfortable. The architecture, designed by the Honolulu-based firm WATG, also draws inspiration from the raw beauty of the surrounding desert. Native plants like palo blanco, elephant tree, and agave ensure harmony with the desert environment.

A bridge connected the residences to the hotel’s three pool environments and outdoor gardens, making it easy to move between their private sanctuary and everything the resort offered. This became especially valuable when it was time to eat. Whether they chose dinner at Ardea Steakhouse or a simple drink at M Bar, every dining experience was impressive. Having this variety meant exploring completely different culinary experiences each night.

The property also weaves together the residences with hotel amenities, spa facilities, and an almost ridiculous 18 pools scattered throughout the grounds, all with views of the Pacific Ocean rolling endlessly toward the horizon. “Our goal was to drink margaritas by the pool and eat amazing food while reconnecting and talking endlessly. This space allowed for that perfectly,” she says.

The residences’ butler service turned out to be one of the trip’s best surprises. “I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but it was fantastic,” she says. “Our butler would have a car out front at the exact time I needed it. He was so insightful too. He recommended taking a walk on the beach to see this stunning rock formation. It was absolutely beautiful and totally worth it!”

What made the residences actually work is that the design served the experience. There were sculptural courtyards and dramatic fire bowls throughout the property, and artistic elements that added genuine beauty. But these details never competed with what you’re really there for: being truly present with the people sharing the space with you. Morning coffee on your terrace watching the grounds come alive. Evening gatherings in a living room that feels like actual living. The residences offer the space and comfort to slow down and just “be.”
