Al Coronel has been a victim, hero, salsa dancer, and video game character—some in real life and on-screen. In reality he’s an actor, veteran (eight years as a Marine), and world-recognized salsa dancer. The LA native landed his first film role in Johnny Depp’s Blow as a salsa dancer, and it led to him becoming a full-time actor.
You can see him on TNT’s The Last Ship, or Activision and Treyarch’s “Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War” video game. He also appears in the CW’s Jane the Virgin, Marvel’s Logan, and FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. We asked Al to share how he unwinds when not at work.
1. Nike Running Gear
I like to begin my day early on a morning hike with all my Nike gear, including running tights and my Pegasus Trail 2 GORE-TEX shoes, going to our local hiking trails at Runyon Canyon in Hollywood. I feel ready to tackle any trail with the right footwear and gear.
Buy it: Nike Running Tights, $60; Nike Pegasus Trail 2 GORE-TEX, $160
2. Gold Standard 100% Whey
I love making myself a post-workout/hike smoothie with double rich chocolate-flavored protein powder from Optimum Nutrition. It took me some time to find the right powder that wouldn’t taste chalky or have a funny aftertaste. Glad I found it.
Buy it: Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Powder, $16.49
3. Amazon Music App
Once I hit the hiking trails I kick up the pace with my Amazon Music app on my phone and listen to my Salsa playlist. Keeps me dancing my way up the trails. WEPA!
Buy it: Amazon Music App, $7.99/month
4. Camelbak Backpack
I make sure that when I’m on the go I have plenty of water readily available for when I’m thirsty and need to hydrate. My Camelbak backpack serves multiple purposes. It’s a great place to store my key and phone as well as to keep plenty of cool water available while staying hands-free should I need to catch my fall on the trail.
Buy it: Camelbak Ratchet Hydration Pack, $85
5. Pre-Shave Oils
Once I’m done with my workout and back home it’s time to get cleaned up and ready for the rest of the day, and that usually starts with a nice shave and grooming practices. A few years ago I was introduced to some of the products from the Art of Shaving. I love using their pre-shave oils, shaving creams, and after-shave balm. It leaves my face nice and smooth. I was also recently introduced to the Manscaped Club, and so far I’m really enjoying their grooming products for men.
Buy it: Sandalwood Full Size Kit with Shaving Brush, $95
6. CK ONE Summer
After a relaxing shower and shave I enjoy using a nice cologne, like my bottle of CK ONE Summer from Calvin Klein. It does it for me every time.
Buy it: CK ONE Summer, $65
7. AllSaints Boyton Bomber
As I get ready for the day I usually like to dress pretty rugged, and that includes my Tobias leather boots and Boyton leather bomber jacket from AllSaints.
Buy it: Tobias Leather Boots, $359; Boyton Leather Bomber Jacket, $499
8. Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight Sportster
When I’m ready to head out the door I love to hit the road and feel the freedom of the highway on my Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight Sportster. Wind in my hair, well, wind on my helmet at least.
Buy it: Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight Sportster, starts at $11,299
9. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War
When winding down at the end of my day I like to kill some stuff—I mean on my Sony PS5 and as my character, DGI Garcia, in “Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.” The multiplayer and zombie version of the game is the newest release (out November 2020) from Activision and Treyarch. As a fan of the series and fellow gamer I’m truly humbled and excited to be making my Call of Duty debut with heart-pounding action and amazing graphics. I’m finally putting my eight years in the Marine Corps to some good use in the civilian world.
Buy it: Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, $60
