The first big auto show of the year is on in Chicago. The 2021 Chicago Auto Show, which normally happens in February, runs for 5 days (down from 10) from July 15 to July 19. and is about half the size.
I ran through a quick preview today, and it’s easy to call out the highlights. Or should I say highlight. It’s the Ford Bronco.
Ford took advantage of the unusual summer show to build an outdoor “Build Wild Bronco mountain experience,” designed by race car driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. It’s the clear highlight of the 2021 Chicago Auto Show.
Ford is also showing off the fully electric F-150 Lightning and the 2022 Maverick.
Other highlights include, well, a really great special edition Bronco by Filson.
Kia also presented its all-new 2022 Kia EV6—its first all-electric car. The GT model runs 0 to 60mph in 3.5 seconds and kicks out 576 horsepower, making it a contender against Tesla’s Model Y.
Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Mazda, and Hyundai chose to sit this version of the show out. The show plans to return to its February time slot in 2022.
