In the historic lanes of Brighton, an old post office has been transformed into a vibrant brasserie full of color, comfort, and modern British dishes and drinks. The Ivy in the Lanes is the first coastal restaurant site in the Ivy Collection, a series of upmarket brasseries and neighborhood cafés across the UK.

Opened in May 2018, the restaurant has an informal yet sophisticated interior design, with vintage prints and artwork inspired by Brighton lining its walls. Martin Brudnizki Design Studio consulted on the interiors. Even inside this seaside restaurant, diners can enjoy the Brighton beach, pier, tropical plants, and sea life—like the giant, intricately painted squids swimming across the ceiling in one of the rooms.

A touch of gilding and bright colors on the walls contrast nicely against the leather banquettes and mix of vintage dining chairs with eclectic throw pillows, illuminated by mirrors, pendant lighting, and light pouring in from large windows. In the middle of the restaurant, a striking onyx bar adorned with bevelled mirror panels and over owing greenery serves traditional and contemporary cocktails.

The Ivy in the Lane’s whimsical aesthetic even prompted a collaboration with local luxury tailor Gresham Blake, who designed a limited edition bespoke tie inspired by the bold prints and artwork on the walls and menu that define this stylish restaurant space.
